"Two years ago, I (Jessica) attended a conference on Emotional Poverty. The presenter shared a shocking statistic that has stuck with me as a parent and as the director of a mentoring program. 'On average, parents spend 14 minutes a day in quality conversation with their children.' I thought about this statistic in my own life and how that number can fluctuate lower or higher depending upon each child’s home situation. Many children are searching for an adult who can provide them with the undivided, positive attention that they need. This time can be spent sharing their day-to-day stories, fears, and goals and learning new skills that they can take with them through life.
The Reach & Rise® program can help to fill the gap! We are looking for positive, supportive, caring adults who have two hours a week to make a difference. Will you be that person for a child?" -Jessica Burr, Clinical Director of Reach & Rise®
| |
The Reach & Rise® youth mentoring program is a national, evidence-based program recognized by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention program (OJJDP). We help kids learn about and manage emotions, build social skills, try new things, and develop and maintain healthy relationships.

"If you're training at home (or in your office) and find that you're getting stronger but don't want to purchase heavier weights, you can increase your load by challenging your balance or adding static holds. For instance, doing a single leg squat or deadlift, or stopping a bicep curl halfway and hold a few seconds." |
| Don’t overthink healthy living. Move your body in a way that is functional and enjoyable, try to always include a colorful variety of produce everyday along with lean protein. An important factor is to not feel like you are punishing yourself to live a healthy life; that is always counterproductive. |
